What Matters Most

Pictured here are all the earthly belongings of our DR Congo missionary who landed here last night. It looks bigger in the picture than the 7 pounds it really is (not counting the hat). Most of our new missionaries arrive with more than this in their hand bags or back packs – this is this missionary's total balance sheet.

As I watched him come in the front door with his duffel bag - half full - I assumed his ‘suitcase’ was still in the van or got lost at the airport but he assured me that what I saw was what we were going to get – seven pounds of ‘stuff’, an incredible smile and a burning desire to serve a mission.

His native language is French but he spoke very good English, better than many of our ‘English speakers’. But, he charmed us all when he replied to my question about where he learned his English, with the comment, “English is so difficult for me” spoken in perfect and articulate English.

Our hearts have been touched. We know we will never forget this big, good looking, English speaking Black Congolese Frenchman, complete with white baseball cap, big smile and all his worldly possession loosely packed in his seven pound duffel bag. He is helping us remember what really matters most.

Constant Hay Fever is our worst health problem.
