The Accra Temple Lighting - December 3, 2005
The Temple on the night of the Temple Lighting service in Accra, Ghana
The Lights were turned on - not quite like Salt Lake Temple Square but for downtown Accra this was a 'really big deal'...several thousand people showed up, many non-members and many were touched. Several stories are already surfacing of people who asked to join the church just by feeling the spirit of the temple and the Temple site...what a terrific missionary tool.
At a VIP dinner before the Temple Lighting service - President and Sister Child and President and Sister Snow of the Area Presidency. Notice the coats! This means it was 'really' a big deal - we didn't wear coats even when Elder Nelson and Elder Scott came...
Multi-stake Choir and Ghana National Orchastra were the music for the Christmas Lighting program - very well done and entertaining - DAve Stapley's head dominated this picture but he is a 'big wig' (DTA) so maybe it is ok...ha
Two of the V.I.P's at the dinner - both members and both are here acting in advisory capacity for the new Ghana International Airline - the left is Bro Dailey - Carolyn Dailey's husband who first brought us to the Africa we have grown to love in 1994 with Choice. I was introduced to the other gentleman twice but still I did not log in his name - hope if he sees this he will forgive me.
Childrens' choir at the Temple Ligthing service - they were very good...
A choir especially for the VIP dinner - all African's except one pale face - Sister Thompson - they were also very good...Africans have the 'beat' and a great ear for music...
