When the "Cats" are away, the "Mice" will play...
What do you notice about this picture? First you need to know this was taken (October 4, 2005) during the time that both members of the Area Presidency are off to conference. Not knowing the order of the church I was told (by the Area Executive Secretary) that the Executive Secretary to the Area Presidency is the highest ranking officer in the absence of Elder Child and Elder Snow. That means that Elder Thompson who is shown above with his sweet wife is in charge. He, together with the Public Affairs office and Welfare Services, in order to promote a new image for the church in Africa have decided to 'test' a new Handbook of Instructions for Missionary Work (White Handbook) . Shown above is the picture that has been chosen for the cover of the new book that goes to press this week. This picture is an attempt in one captured moment to demonstrate and illustrate to President Appiah, formerly of Cape Coast, now of Chicago most of the newest authorized changes in the Book. The top three changes are: 1) Elder and Sister Thompson are showing the newest missionary dress code - it is called the 'le'casuel' (for those of you that are fluent and literate in the Likasi version of French).
2) Elder Lewis is demonstrating that it is now ok to be without your companion. (We can double our effectivness).
3) Elder Hales is showing the new 'arms length' rule (without 'really loving' your companion there will be no unity, is the theory for this updated version of a long standing missionary rule).
President Appiah, although he looks calm, was later seen in the temple putting all of their names on the prayer roll and it was reported that he spent quite some time on a call to Salt Lake...I'm sure it was just a social call...
